My DH has taken our ginger cat, Sandy to the vets to be put to sleep We are having a terrible time with our beloved cats recently...we lost George our oldest cat last month.

Sandy went missing months ago and despite searching for him and registering him with all the local animal shelters, we couldn't find him.

Out of the blue we got a call from the local RSCPA, saying they had found our cat, that he was sick and could we pick him up from them and pay a relative large bill (would of been 3 times the cost at a private vets, so thank goodness for that) for the treatment he had received.

Sadly we learnt that he had a cancerous tumour which couldn't be treated, he needed tablets for the rest of his life to stop his lungs filling up with fluid.

He was been home with us a few weeks but sadly his breathing got worse and yesterday he stopped eating and we knew it was time to take him to put him out of his pain.

Poor Sandy, my lap cat...I'll miss you a lot
Missing since Friday 4th April 2008

He's home !!!

Might not be for long but he is home at last, after being missing for 3 months

He is very clean, but sooo thin and in pain. He came straight up to me demanding cuddles and the kicker..he was found just 3 streets away. All the time I have spent looking and calling for him and he was practically around the corner .

The RSCPA picked him up and took him to the vets, who scanned him and rung us up this afternoon. Only cost us £15 so far and a referral to the RSCPA tomorrow for x-rays and properly an operation. We are going cap in hand to see what if anything the RSCPA can do to help us...fingers crossed.

DH has taken our oldest most beloved cat to the vets, at 18 years old with thyroid problems and a dodgy leg...he isn't coming back.

I just wish he could of had a nicer last day, he just slept in his upstairs basket and I took him food and water.

I was hopeing he could enjoy the sun, but no sun here today

I know we made the right decision but I miss him already and Tigs is going to be so upset when he notices him missing. They usually sleep curled around each other

So now we are down to six cats, we have recently lost Sandy (he escaped via the front door never to return)

But one cat can't replace another.

George would sleep on my head (pre child when we let him into our bedroom). He aways purred all the time and wanted so many cuddles. We adopted him as an older cat, abandoned in a multi story car park. He was terrified of traffic and didn't wander far from home (in our last house)

He enjoyed sleeping with Tigs and sleeping in the sun on the warm paving stones. He use to be 'top cat' and would inist on first dibs of sleeping and food arrangements. Even when he got older and gave up his role of 'top cat' he still kept his food and bed rights

Despite his bad legs, he still managed to climb to the top of the 8 foot cat tree and despite his bad ears, he still managed to hear the lid coming off the wet cat food.

He has had a lovely life with us and the rest of our cat herd, but the thyroid problem needed another operation and there was no way he would of survived it, so we took him home and loved him over the last few weeks and when he looked ill, we knew we had to take him in.
No, not the baby...my cat Bramble.

She has decided that she has been patient enough and waiting nine weeks for real attention is far too long.

So she decided to wait here for attention, until she gets it ....

...I decided to get a quick picture before Deckchair saw her sat on the expensive laptop.

So as I am typing this entry I have Bramble cuddled up on my knee enjoying some loving and poor Babychair is having some 'me' time on the floor with her toys...I wish there was more of me to share around.
How many cats can you see in this picture ?

Are you sure ?

What about this picture..can you see any cats ?

Did you see this naughty cat ?

Notice that he couldn't get out again without us moving the monitor, so how did he get in this impossibly small space to start off with ?
We have very few rules for our cats, no going on the kitchen surfaces, no going on tables to beg for food when we are eating and no jumping on dangerous/high inappropriate places.

Usually a sharp 'No' will make most of our cats behave but Tigs has 'toddler selective hearing' and never hears such words as 'No' and worse still he is encouraging his partner in crime Spot into similar bad habits.

Can you see the naughty cats in question ?

Just in case you can't see them, here is a couple of close ups.

Tigs sleeping on my wedding album box on top of the 6 foot high cupboard

Spot lying on the TV

Then Spot jumps up to join Tigs and they start fighting on top of the narrow cupboard

Spot won and Tigs retreated to the sofa looking miffed

I hope we have better luck training our child, though he/she is unlikely to be found on top of the cupboard or TV....I hope !!!

Sadly I missed the opportunity to take/post a picture of several of my cats being very cosy. Awww

To set the scene we have had a builder around today, who spent most of the day plastering our back utility room ceiling and boy does it look so much better than it did.

Because the nice builder was in that room which had the cat flap in it, apart from Milly whom I had both let out and in the front door I had not seen hide nor hair of any of the cats.

So once the nice builder had left with some of our hard earned cash and left us with a lovely smooth ceiling with no holes, I went in search of feline company.

Annie of course is still hiding under the corner kitchen cupboard which she retreats too at the first sign of any person who is not Deckchair or me.

When I reached the hall by the stairs, Tigs cantered past me Murrping at the top of his voice. In our room I found Sandy at the top of the cat tree and on our bed in a neat square I found Bramble, George, Milo and Spot. It is amazing how they might have their spats with each other like kids but when they are upset they seek the same space and seem to take comfort from each others company.

It always surprises me when people refer to cats as solitary anti social creatures. Our cats activitely seek out each other to play, play fight and to groom each other and when upset they are usually found together...surely this is proof that not all cats are anti-social !?!
Several months after the scare of having new furniture in the living saga, made Annie retreat to the kitchen, she is back in the living room !!!

She has been sat on the door jowl of the kitchen/living room door for months but would not come in any further and today she just scooted in and sat on the new rug and had a good sniff around and then dashed back to the safety of the kitchen.
At last Annie our feral born and still feral acting kitty cat was spotted in the living room tonight !!! Great news.

Annie started life in our house a couple of years ago. She lived under our double bed for several months and then moved downstairs to the cat tree and sofas in the living room and lastly into the kitchen. She was even spotted by Deckchair sat on the back door steps when he left the door open whilst empting the kitchen bin but as a rule she doesn't go outside.

When we started to have a big clearout of the house taking the sofa's and our bed and other pieces of funiture out of the house, this upset Annie and we think she decided to hide out near the food/water/litter trays downstairs. Which meant under a kitchen cupboard via a bit of unfixed skirting board which she moved out the way.

Though she sits in her cat bed in the corner of the kitchen and accepts limited hugs, strange people and sounds drive her to her kitchen hole. Now she is getting braver, I think it is time to block off her hideyhole.

Investigating the ripping sound from behind the living room curtains, resulting in one bad black cat, Spot with his mouth full of wallpaper... Argghh.

I asked my DH what we should do, he couldn't say anything for laughing. Wonder if he'll feel the same when I have bought the new wallpaper ?

Our oldest cat George has been suffering from hyperthroyidism, which meant he was losing weight no matter how much he ate and as eating is George favorite activity after sleeping this was unusual enough to merit a vet visit.

He went in for his operation this morning and I picked him up at 4:30pm.

The vet gave specific instructions for Georgie's post operation recovery. I was to take him home and place the carrycase in a quiet spot and to let George come out when he was ready. The vet explained that as an older cat, George would not need or want any food for several hours and I was not meant to be worried about any lack of appetite in George.

Little does the vet know about my cat...within seconds of being released from his carrycase, George staggered to the nearest plate of food and cleared it. As I said eating is George's favorite activity.

Here is George with his shaved chest
